The academic foundation

Breadth with direction.

English, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, French, arts, physical education and health, and technology or computer science form the published high-school credit framework. College-preparatory and Honors coursework sit alongside six Advanced Placement subjects. This overview explains the areas of study; it is not a grade-by-grade course catalogue.

For younger students, ask admissions about the program and placement for the intended grade. For high-school students, discuss prior coursework, remaining requirements, and the relationship between course choices and possible future study with the counselor.

Subject areas

Different ways of thinking.

01

English and social studies

The high-school framework includes 2.5 credits in English and 2 credits in social studies. Reading, evidence, argument, and communication are useful lenses for discussing work in these subjects. Ask the school for the current course sequence.

02

Mathematics, science, and computing

The framework includes 3 mathematics credits, 2.25 science credits, and 1 technology or computer science credit. Laboratory science and computing are part of the program; AP options include Biology, Calculus AB, and Computer Science Principles.

03

Languages

Spanish Language and Literature contributes 2 credits and French Language contributes 1 credit. English is the language of instruction, and AP French Language and Culture is among the advanced options.

04

Arts, health, and electives

The framework includes 1 Fine Arts credit, 0.5 Physical Education / Health credit, and 1 elective credit. The separate senior arts portfolio and research project each contribute 1 credit.

Making a plan

Check the whole record.

A course choice should make sense within the full graduation plan. Review credits, service, the senior projects, and any requirements of institutions you are considering. AEIS uses an unweighted 4.0 GPA; Honors and AP courses do not add bonus GPA points.
